Hi all,

Here is a picture of a Discovery Ambulance I used to drive. It's one of only a few (30-ish) produced in-house by Land Rover SVO.

It was built on a stretched 110 inch wheelbase, but unlike a lot of Ambulance conversions, it used, wherever possible, Discovery body panels, rather than a separate fibreglass body.

I would be interested if anybody knows if it is still in use as an ambulance?

According to DVLA it is currently on the road, but I don't think it's in service with the Ambulance service anymore.

Thanks

I've got a J reg Discovery ambulance, part of a batch built for the North East amublance service and all with HVK numberplates. They're 116in wheelbase, apparently the same as the extra-long Range Rover LSE models. James Taylor wrote an article about them in a fairly recent land Rover magazine, and his number indicated that less than 20 (Discos) were built, a couple went to oil survey companies and the rest ambulances....

I occasionally poke Mr Google and see if any information comes up about Disco ambulances (which is how I found this thread) and today I also found these boyos- http://www.tastydesign.eu/mongolrally/mongolrally_theambulance.html

They've got your actual ambulance and are gunning it across Europe and Asia!

My HVK and the other ones I've seen in photos have a standard height roof, your L-reg beast and one that the local St John's Ambulance use have the high fibreglass roof.

l to r: 2 photos from ukemergency.co.uk (whereabouts or existence unknown), then my J463 HVK- in the middle of welding olympics and large birthday overhaul, then the J reg St Johns Ambulance, maintained by Dunsfold Land Rovers, so unlikely to disappear.
