Excellent....well described .... now I'll try it ... thanks
I watched this video out of interest as I managed to replace a detent spring in situ last summer on my S1, which has what I believe is a S2 gearbox - body is off for restoration but running gear was already back in place when I discovered the broken spring.

This video shows exactly the same steps that I took to do the job and the key seemed to be manipulating the synchro hub between 3rd and 4th gear positions during the insertion process rather than following the internet instructions to the letter and leaving it in 3rd.

I was planning on changing all 3 springs but decided that the probable pain of removing the "good" ones with a possibility of them failing after inflicting damage during an unsuccessful attempt outweighed the effort of replacing the originals at some time in the future.
