Mantec Swing Away Wheel Carrier

Upgrade Guide Mantec Swing Away Wheel Carrier

Quick article showing how to fit a Mantec swing away wheel carrier

All nuts and bolts are provided in the kit and it should take around 1-2 hours to install with some tea breaks and a few rusty bolts to undo.

First you need to remove the old carrier. To do this remove the door card if fitted and undo all the bolts holding the outer plate on, then from the inside undo the bolt securing the rear wiper motor and spin it around to allow you to withdraw the inner part of the wheel carrier.

Bolt on the new door crrier using the old bolts. Please note this has fittings for older and newer style wheel carriers so no drilling should be required of the door, Once the new carrier is fitted you can attach the slide joint that allows the door to be opened with the carrier in place.

You then need to remove the drivers side grab handle from the crossmember and fit the lower mounting bracket. The red arrows show the bolt holes to use and also the orientation of the support plates (supplied) that go behind the crossmember. This is a bit fidley :)

The top bracket just requires you to drill out two of the rivets in the capping, however the vehicle I was working on only had one rivet and a new hole had to be drilled using the mount as a template. They needed to be drilled out to 11mm to allow the supplied bolts to go through. Again a reinforceing bracket is suppled to go at the back of the capping

Fit the brackets losely and then slot the carrier in place with supplied bolts and washers.

Once you have the swing away carrier connected to the brackets close the rear door and bolt the swing away carrier to the ram on the rear door mount.

Open the door a few times and ensure smooth operation, tighten all the bolts down and then jobs a goodn.. No more strain on the rear door and it looks nice too

Now just refit the wiper motor retaining bolt and the rear door card, have a cup of tea and refit your spare.
