Repair Guide Replacing Front Discs And Pads

1.Lift the bonnet and loosen off the brake fluid reservoir top. This will relieve pressure in the braking system when it comes time to lever out the brake pads before removal.

2.Loosen off wheel nuts, jack up LR, lower axle onto axle stands and remove wheel...this is what you'll see...the disc exposed along with the whole hub

3.Remove brake pins and splits pins,wedge brake pads open with a large screwdriver or tyre lever and lift out brake pads.

4.Loosen off brake caliper bolts

5.At the top of the swivel pin housing you'll see a bracket that holds the brake pipe that leads to the caliper. Loosen this off

6.Remove caliper and zip tie out of the way so as to prevent the brake line getting bent or pinched

7.Remove flange bolts with a 17mm socket/spanner.

8.Take off rubber dust cover

9.Take off circlip next

10.Remove packing washers

11.Take off flange exposing wheel bearing lock nuts

12.Tap wheel bearing lock nut tab washer flat and loosen off lock nut

13.Remove hub along with disc being mindful to keep an eye for a wheel bearing dropping off onto the ground. You will then expose the stub axle.

14.Pictured here is the old disc with the hub. Loosen off the 6 bolts holding disc to hub

15.This is what you will now install from now on...disc,oil stub axle oil seal gasket and new locking tab washer

16.Put some copper grease onto hub before offering up new disc

18.Tighten the disc retaining bolts

19.Remove wheel bearings and rinse/clean in solvent,in this case petrol.

20.Open up some wheel bearing grease

21.Leave wheel bearings to dry

22.Pack wheel bearings with grease.

23.Put greased inner wheel bearing back into hub

24.Install oil seal

25. The hub can now be put back on the way it was taken off,tightening wheel bearings as required and installing a new locking tab washer

26 Install the flange gasket

27.Install flange and put back packing washers and circlip

28.Press on rubber dust cap

29.Get new brake pins/split pins if required

30.Install brake pads and pump brake pedal slowly to increase pressure.

Tighten brake fluid reservoir top. Put on wheel, jack up LR, remove axle stands, lower LR onto ground and tighten wheel nuts.
