1.8 gearbox

Dammfast

Shifting Up
Hi all,

The 1.8 petrol uses a PG1 gearbox sourced from powertrain I believe. This as I understand it is the same as was used in a lot of Rovers. I have one from for Rover 800 sat in my garage mint and still tagged for factory delivery, from back in the days I ran 800's. The question is this; are they the same? Does the IRD bolt to the gearbox, or is it part of the outer casting? In other words, is it worth my while keeping it in case I kill the one fitted to my current Freebie?

Im having trouble with my gearbox on my TD4 and asked my local mechanic the same question and he said the casings are different, ie no ird holes, but hes sure that the inards are the same.
But bear in mind that there are 2 PG1 gearboxes in freelanders one for diesel and one for petrol only differnce is the ratios. so if both of them are for petrol then the insides should be the same.
correct me if im wrong as i am also learning.:)
