2.5 Petrol In A Series

DOMFISH

Overdrive!
my engine is a little tired as most. but wondering if any, the advantages of fitting a 2.5 to a series as suppose to the 2.25..
is there much in the way of top end(have an overdrive fitted),
is there much more in the way of acceleration or shall i just go for another 2.25??????

If you're changing, why not 2.5nad for extra economy, cheap to buy and convert? I don't think the 2.5 petrol would be an advantage other than maybe a few more ponies but not enough to make a real difference and mpg probably wouldn't change much. If you're not bothered about economy go V8. If its a money thing then get another 2.25 petrol, I always liked mine, it was always fast enough (apart from hills) but 15mpg:(.....

currently running on gas so doing plenty mpg... selling the old v8 as too much hassel to convert..getting hold of exhaust and the like.. plus not cheap when you count up all the new stuff you need ie fuel pump

Hi,

Have a look here, it's a description of fitting a 2.5 petrol in place of a 2.25 in a Rover P4 "80" car. The engineering and alterations would be near identical in a Land-Rover conversion...

Hope this helps... Sorry about the links, but I don't have time to type it all out again!

Regards, Glen.

Think i will do steve as mine is just missing that bit extra as its on its way out oil coming out the breathers and running all over the place!!!

Defintely go for it and get an overdrive too if you can. People say the 2.5 petrol is unburstable.

The one I had in my old 90 was a peach, 22MPG (more on a long run) would site at 65 on the motorway al day, even hills where not a problem, and have seen 80 out of it. go for it.

Right ive made my mind up going to get one..so if anyone knows of a good one kicking around let me know, was one on flebay but went before it ended...also after a series 3 gearbox...

My 110 on the flat 4 up :D
