300 TDi Left Hand Stereo Speakers Not Working - Help Required

JDB

In Fourth Gear
Ok the scenario - stereo works (and CD multichanger) but only plays on the right hand side (front and back) left side is dead only the tweeter in the pillar trim seems to be working.
Is there a universal connection somewhere behind the dash or an amp? and if so where exactly are they?
I have also been getting the occaisional "boom" from the the rear bass unit as I switch on - is this a sign of an amp on the way out as well??

Can someone help me with which wire colours to follow through the dash to the speakers.
Thanks in advance.

There is an amp box fitted in the passenger side footwell you need to remove the trim infront of the door and you will see a silver gavlvanised box with all the speaker wires going in to it hope this helps you

That sound promising - I will have a check - it would be nice if it was just a loose cable (for once).....

... just been and checked - can't see a galvanised box?

... yes done that! And checked with another stereo that gave me the same problem.
Bass works - just occaisionally get a deep click or boom when I turn on - so yes its amp might be on the way out.
Aim this w/e is to trace the wires from the bacl of the stereo and try putting a speaker across the wires at different points to see if I can trace the problem.
I am hoping Haynes wiring diagram gives me enough detail!
