300TDI oil pressure warning lamp

Graham Bowers

In Third Gear
Hello
On my 1995 300tdi disco with 122 K miles on the clock, the oil pressure warning lamp takes 2 to 3 seconds to go out on cold startup. It goes out pretty much straight away on a hot re-start. I've had it about a month and it's always done this.
Is this normal please?
Cheers
Graham

Hi

I have 1996 300 TDi with 120,000 miles (coincidence!!) mine takes about the same time. oil changed every 5000 miles and had it for 10,000 miles so far. always been the same.

I am not worried, My last car was a BMW 320d with 30,000 miles which used to take 8 seconds and you could hear the tappits filling up and going quiet, needless to say I got rid and back to a disco. but it has put me off the TD5 as they are a very similar engine.
