They say that we get their weather a week or so later.

Would be exciting though wouldn't it, imagine trying to drive to work in that.;)

Well I don't think you'll get that storm it was like 10 days of lake effect snow off of Lake Ontario!

This new system is a regular storm though, looks like they have my county scheduled for 24"+ see pic:

I've just had a text from my friend Mary in Waukasha, Wisconcin - about 85 miles north of Chicago. She says they have a 'blizzard' right now and if a 'cheesehead' says they have a 'blizzard', they don't mean twenty minutes of thick snow that blows away a half hour later. They mean SNOW. :D

She once called me to say she was a bit fed up, because it was snowing. I said; 'But you love the snow, how much?'
'Thirteen inches.' She said. Wow, that's terrific, what's wrong with that? I asked.
'In an hour?'

Roger.

Imagine getting that amount of snow here?
How long would it take for a state of national emergency to be declared?

We'd have UN Herc's dropping food parcels on villages. Yet I bet the Eastern seaboard cope fairly well.

Here are some pics from this morning, I'm not sure how much we have so far but it is well over a foot. I need to go to my parents to help dig them out, Will take some more pics as the day goes on.

Wonderful! The ex-pat Land Rover in one of its natural environments. Good looking Landie Matt.

Roger.

losing battle

I don't know how good looking she is but she has an honest patina!;) She looks well worked and she has led a long and faithful life.

I went back out this afternoon- you would not have known we'd plowed everything and shoveled this morning, easily another food on the ground. I tried to start the landy and realized- duh- I'd left the ignition on, so I had to jump the battery to get it going again. While I was doing that the Land Lord got his GMC full size Jimmy/Blazer stuck, the plow rode up offer the snow and he was firmly stuck, snow all wedged behind the plow, up past the frame in snow beneath, REALLY stuck... I putted down to the Blazer and a quick tug with a snatch strap yanked him well out and quite a ways. :D

I love Snatch Straps!

After helping there I decided to go down to the County road to check on conditions, probably 6 inches on our road and a good 4 or so on the county road- the county and town plows have all fallen behind because of the rate of snowfall. To make matters worse every putz seems to think it is his prerogative to push all his snow from his drive onto the hard road- assuming a county plow will come along and push it away. No dice! So periodically you have to run through great piles of snow that are thrust into the main road. There should be a law against that...

As I drove around I noticed the LR getting sluggish, put in the clutch to shift and it stalled immediately- Re started it and it would only sort of idle at 3/4ths choke, runs ok down the road but won't keep running when you shift... I think I've sucked up a dose rust and scale from my tank- I knew I should have replaced the !%!$%^&* Sock on the pick-up tube.

So I came home, parked the rover and removed the battery to charge it inside properly. I'll go out again later and see if I can figure out the fuel problem.

Re: losing battle

looks like I am not going anywhere for a while:
OTSEGO COUNTY ISSUES TRAVEL BAN
--County officials have issued a travel ban effective at 5:00 pm. They have also declared a "State of Emergency". Heavy snow is making it difficult for plows to clear the roadways.

The travel ban means only plow trucks, emergency vehicles, tow trucks and essential personal going to and from work can be on the roads. Officials tell us the high number of accidents and cars on the road led them to issue the ban. The order is in effect until further notice.

It has been a long day- a lot of shovelinh. all in all yesterday we got ~34"-+.

On my way home I found an abandoned Farmall, apparently he had slid off the side too far and was thoroughly stuck. I looked for the driver but he had apparently gone for help.

Thats crazy! iv just come back from florida 2 days ago and had nothing but sun shine but the weather up and around new york was on the news and its just mad how they cope

Here are some pics from the morning, My brother and I met up and headed to our parents to shovel off their roofs and clear off their cars. There is one picture of a derelict IIa that we passed on the way there- it once belonged to a Land Surveyor but it hasn't moved in the last 10 years or so- it isn't apt to move any time soon either.

Does your land rover ever get warm in those sort of temperatures???

H

Yep it is pretty warm. I have a 190F thermostat so that helps. North American IIas got a special heater too that is far bigger than the Smiths shin burner.

BUT I have an issue with my blower motor- apparently when it runs something shorts out the ignition sporadically. So now real heat for me today. You just drive it bundled up the same way you dress for outside and it is tolerable. Really it makes you appreciate the cab a LR has- compare it to a soft top Willys Jeep like in WW2- US and Brit soldiers back then must have frozen in winter 44-45...

Of course my Brother's FJ40 had plenty of heat, right now he has had a run of luck and nothing is especially wrong with his 4*4. ;)

Some more of the good pics. The one of the 3 plows is where they are trying to push back the snow drifts. The wind has been brisk today and has pushed drifts well out into the roads. Some of the secondary roads have drifts 3-8 feet deep.

One of the pics is of an old 1 room school house- partially obscured by snow.

Another pic is through the windscreen you can see the glare of the ice beneath the snow on the road.

The last pic is hard to judge for scale but the drifts extend more than half way across the road and are actually all of 2 1/2 feet deep, luckily there was enough room to squeeze by! you have to love the narrowness of an old Rover!
