B####y garages.They make me sick.

I do most repairs/servicing myself but didn't fancy lying on my back trying to sort my hand brake which was sticking on.So I booked it into a local independant. They said the actuator had siezed so they freed it off and fitted new shoes. They said they had tried it a few times and it was still sticking so they thought it needed a new actuator which I agreed to.I went to pick it up and the hand brake was useless, coming right up.I told them it was not right and then they said it needs a new cable so I went back the next day to get a new cable which I fitted myself, I got the hand brake to work well and I was happyish.
Well I was sat at a set of lights a couple of days later and when I tried to set off,yes the hand brake was seized on,nothing I could do,I had to move. I rang them not a happy chappy and was told the bit that the cable joins to was worn and it might be that.
Why keep guessing at what it might be and just fix the damn thing.

I know there are some good places,(I wish I lived near blackpool).
Unfortunatley I picked a bad one.Well they have lost my buisness now,and the state my car is in I could spend £000's on it.

You can't beat doing your own work or at least using a recommended garage. From your post it seems they have replaced just about the whole handbrake mechanism. Replace the drum and everything is just about new.

Im lucky that my mate has a garage. If there is something i can't do or figure out he is always able to help. At least i know what he says is nothing but 100% truth!

Next best thing is a garage you can trust, these can be hard to find and unfortunatly you usualy have to go through a few rubbish ones first!

My local independent specialist is good - often giving free advice. which is nice.

I only use them if I have to tho - my time is free, theirs is 35ph...

plus they obviously mark up the prices. cheaper on tinternet...
