bridge plates

I have also seen them with a blank plate, yellow or later grey.

Rex

The requirement to change from yellow to grey was issued in Aug 1977. There was no requirement for UK based vehicles to display a classification, as in peacetime UK bridges were not catergorised with a limit. Note that the classification was not just for bridges but also included rafts & ferries. Although originally the bridge classification of the vehicle was the rounded up weight in tons, it is now based not just on weight but no of axles, no of wheels, size of wheels, weight of each axle, wheelbase etc

Yes that was before the issue of the CRAOC orders, but I see the Union Flag sticker is in the wrong place even for those times.

About 10 years ago I saw dozens of CVR(T) Spartans at AVD Ludgershall, they had freshly painted yellow bridge discs!

All of which goes to show that there are frequent mistakes made, even by those that did/do it for a living. Here is another veh from the same unit at the same era in time. So for all the nit picking we do 30 years down the road, who is to say what is right and what is wrong?

If you note the bedford in the background (of the 1st photo)it has the unit indicator and union flag similarly transposed.

Incidentally, the unit in question was 13th/18th Royal Hussars (Queen Mary's Own) stationed in Hohne, and at that time the 3rd most senior unit in 7 Armoured Brigade, Brigade HQ being No1 and Queens Dragoon Gaurds No2.
