BT Internet users, have you had a new router box?

Strange occurence this morning, postwoman came, rang the door bell and presented me with a package that I had to sign for, which I did and away she went. Gave it to Ali cos I just assumed that she had ordered summat (her name on the package) and she looked a bit surprised. She opened it and it is a new router box and associated leads and filters and things to connect to BT internet.

Well we are a little bit baffled. We use BT Internet but got it all set up last September when we moved to Pembroke and I paid for the router we use now then, on my debit card. I have checked bank accounts and no money has been debited to cover the cost of this new router, we have had no letter expalining what it is all about, and we are a bit baffled as to why BT decided to send us another router without a word:confused:

Just wondered if any other BT Internet users on here have been presented with a nice new box recently for no apparent reason or cost:rolleyes:

cheers, Tim

Have you had an upgrad to your connection, i.e from 2 to 8mb.

You don't need the new box to take advantage but BT do seem to like sending them out.

Another possibility could be that it has VoIP connections and BT will try to sell you that package

i ain't and mines playing up the dsl light flashes for a couple of hours stopping us from connecting to tin ternet

Thats not neccessarily a fault with the router but more because of a bad line or noise on the line, I get the same problem as I live right on the limit, distance wise from the exchange (so they tell me as an excuse!!).

We were on 8mb from the beginning. I haven't actually opened it to see if there are any extra connections 'cos it just makes it easier to send back if they want it back left unopened but according to what is printed on the box it is identical to the one we already have. Oh well, I'll just keep is as a spare if they dont want paying for it or request it back:rolleyes:

cheers, Tim

Yesterday my BT wireless router packed up. It was a 2WIRE model - quite large upright jobby.

Last night I bought a Voyager 2091 model - much smaller, cost £39.

Instant observations are that the coverage aroudn the house is better, and the reception doesn't drop out as much.

Keep your new one, flog the old-un perhaps?

we still got a NTL cable modem box bloody antique Motortola SB4100 SurfBoard they will not replace unless its broke and theres BT sending out spare ones lol

quite right too. It works doesn't it. I mean here we are on this foum with Landies average age about 10 - 20 years old so shouldn't we be trying to stick up for things not shiney and new. One day in 2020 you will be on the Old Modems forum reminiscing about your old Motorola....."I changed the software and adjusted the voltage and she downloaded a terrabyte just like it was 2006" :)
