Ceramic heater

DPKent

Accelerating Away
Seen loads of these ceramic, plug into cigarette lighter, heaters which stick onto the dash lately. Anyone have one? Are they any good, just for clearing the screen a bit quicker really, Im not bothered about heating the cab, just the screen.

I bought one of these with the intention of using it to de-ice the screen too. I was having a problem with the blower at the time and I figured that this would be a great help.................how wrong I was.
The one I got was the best part of £20 and came with heavy duty cables too. It was utterly useless. Even when pointed directly at the screen ( about 1 inch away ) it failed to demist all but a very small area no bigger than a pencil and it took half an hour to do that!!!!

Total crap IMHO.

just like a series 3 heater then.:D

I asked trhe same question on another forum recently and was told they were a waste oftime too.
I was advised to try 'anti mist' by Rain X.
I got some from the local car spares for £4.99 and I've applied it 3 times in the last week. If you've got a car which mists up particularly badly then you need to apply several times, but after the first application it was evident that the problem was suppressed.
I'm gonna keep using it cause im very happy with the results so far.

Heres a link to somewhere selling it

First car aged mini (stop laughing we all had to start somewhere)

Fill hotwater bottle, go out turn on car, heater to defrost, place hottie on dash, wait to clear.

Return to house finish tea, dress warmly.

Enter car and drive after 5 miles and screen fully clear, remove hottie place on lap.

After 16 mile drive arrive at work "warm" air just emerging from heater.

Go out to car take electric fan heater, switch on , start engine, go back in house wait a while, remove electric heater and drive to work and arrive sick as a chip for another day of cold damp and filth.:( :( :( :( :( :( :( :(

Hi
I got one of these form ebay. Search for item number 140073567086.
It needs to be wired into the main electrics of your landy as apposed to the cig lighter. It gives off very good heat and the blower speed is ok. mine is mounted on the front off the dash just left of the gearstick and tilts upwards. It works fine.
Cheers
Ian

Hi Ian,

Could you tell me if this is any good as a heater when camping have been looking at this for a while but £60 is a bit steep if it don't work

Cheers
Ray

Virve's Dad had a normal household electric fan heater wired up in his fiat punto (don't ask me how) and just had it resting on the dash.

Worked a treat in -30º :D

I dont recomend it but i did once meet a guy with a 110 who had a super ser strapped down in the back, he said he comes out and light's it before breakie and then turn's it off before he goes to work, dry's out all the condensation and demist's the windows a treat, made me laugh I can tell ya.:D
