Well now that we have put the winter solstice, Christmas and new year behind us why doesn't the year just get on with it and lighten up a bit so we can do stuff:(

I always find it frustrating going into a new year and then realising it is ages yet before we get light evenings & mornings. It is especially frustrating this year as it is my first new year living in Pembrokeshire. It just seems a complete waste of 3 months:(

cheers, Tim

I agree Tim, i always suffer depression till mid march, every year from as far back as i can remember, and it can be really bad:(

Its a bad time of the year.. little to do on the weekends than go to the pub. Everywhere is so dark and dingy! Working on the truck is well out :(

try using daylight bulbs.
any blue bulb that emmits around 6700k will replicate mid day sunlight.
you could try an orange/red spectrum bulb but this will replicate evening/winter sunlight.
try it , really. youir missing the sun.

Only thing i really dislike about this time of year is the lack of updrafts and the sea being sooo cold i have to wear the surfers equivilant to a gimp mask:D:(

This week is driving me nuts, first night shift week of 2007 and I go to work in the dark, come home in the dark, and sleep through what tiny bit of dingy light we do get. And I have only done one shift, 4 more to go:(

cheers, Tim

Thing is guys we are kind of fooled into thinking once we get Chrismas by we are on the way. Winter doesn`t actually start till the Solstice of 21 dec.

Then there`s the other saying.

As the day lengthens.........The cold strengthens:eek:

Hey come on you guys do not be down take a look around you, the spring bulbs are beginning to pop up out of the ground. Little white snow drops abound (a bit of poetry that).
The twigs of trees are staring to get those little green shoots at their ends. Each day brings a little more daylight, and the quality of the breathable air in winter is just great. Do not let the seasons get you down for each one abounds with the beauty of life just look around you and be glad, and think of the poor sods who for one reason or the other can not.

roll on the snow.:)

If we still got decent snow it wouldn't be as bad. I remember every year a good snow fall or 2 was guarranteed in the Peak District and I used to love it. Now all we get is dull and damp and wind and a bit cold but not very cold depressing yuk:(

jeez at least up north there is some decent time between setting sun and darkness, here it has been getting light only after 7.20 in tha morning, and dark from 4 onwards. Still it hasn't gotten below 5'C yet, which despite being pleasurable has meant that the mosquitos haven't yet been killed off, I were bit last night. Been the warmest winter here for decades. 18'C at midday on Christmas.

Laqst time I was in the UK in the summer I felt like I'd been locked in a time machine and couldn't get used to it being so light for so long after sunset. Odd how we get aclimatised so quickly...

Not up here, in winter the days are very short, gets light around 8 or so and dark again before 4  But then in summer it never really gets dark :)

I agree that it is always gloomy this time of year but I've found loads to do outside. I've got daffs in full bloom in the garden, a sure sign that spring is not far away.

January till March is always a bad time for depression but I can honestly say I have never known as many so low as they are this year, its exceptional this year. :(

Going through a divorce I should be feeling worse than I normally do and yet I seem to be coping, obviously there are highs and lows but I'm amazed that with everything going on around me I am keeping me chin up most of th time, is it because I have something going on thats stopping me from thinking like I nomally do?, obviously my mind is on the job in hand.

Big Hugz to everyone, we ll need to laugh more I recon, its natures way of keeeping us feeling good!

Well in my book spring starts mid march 'til may and then we hit summer. Summer lasts until the end of august and then we have autumn until the end of october. Winter starts on the 1st of november and ends on january the 1st,

Therefore we need a name for the 5th season running from the 1st January until the 14th March, may I propose we call it sh1tumn:D

cheers, Tim
