Current films / series

Re ministry of ungentlemanly warfare, just watched it. Very very little that’s factually accurate apart from lassen being top class loon (he spent most of his war off his gourd on Benzedrine to allow him to keep going) it’s a shame really, the truth it probably more crazy than the movie

There's been some good viewing mentioned here already. I'd like to add 'Banshee', 'Schitt's Creek', 'Slow Horses', and 'Orphan Black'.

I don't remember what provider they come from. SWMBO is in charge of all that.

Just finished the second series of SAS Rogue Heroes - quite enjoyed that.
Started watching Lockerbie with Colin Firth - put it down after 25 minutes for the time being, as felt it was unnecessarily over-dramatised. Pretty sure I watched a recent documentary on the aftermath, so not sure I need a docu-drama.
Started something on Netflix called Missing You - only on the second episode - police drama thing with many twists and turns.

Then there is whatever the OH chooses to watch, which is my cue to grab the laptop and fire up a trip down the YouTube rabbit hole

Just finished watching the Lockerbie story. It’s a long watch and leaves you with no conclusion except both British and American governments have worked overtime to cover their arses and are still continuing to do so.

Ha! Oh man I hear you on that one! All the Mrs wants to watch is high-speed chases ending in shirtless people being tasered by the police and/or detectives interrogating hoodlums too stupid to demand a lawyer. I had no idea there was so much of that on YouTube!

Of course my choice of viewing is much more intellectual... 🤣

Currently catching up with 20 years of 'Silent Witness' on iplayer.
Just finished the complete DVD set of this. A great set of stories.
Try the Sharpe series with Sean Bean. Period action drama set in the Napoleonic Wars. v-good.
Another for me would be the Bourne series.
A remake I really enjoyed was the Equalizer trilogy with Denzil Washington.
I'm heavily into dystopian sci-fi - Matrix series, Maze Runner trilogy, Resident Evil series, Edge of Tomorrow, the Riddick trilogy, V for Vendetta, etc.

You'd probably enjoy Silo on Apple TV. (Though, it follows the book ..not)

That's the trouble isn't it. I've read that trilogy a couple of times. Very detailed and topical - would be worth watching just for Rebecca Ferguson though - if I could stop doing the book comparison. Would probably end up shouting 'that's not what happened' at the telly though
Loved the trilogy! I watched the first series and thought it was reasonably okay. Though I've not rushed to watch the second series.

The Expanse was a great series. Needless to say the books are better, so if you haven't read them, watch the TV series first.

Another one I've always shied away from on TV is Altered Carbon. The book and the two follow up books are brilliant and very prophetic in their way. I just know the TV Series will be watered down and a lot of the books import will be lost.

Unaware of the books, I enjoyed watching Altered Carbon. I now know that I'll appreciate the books.

If you like your Sci-Fi to be predictive, prophetic and cutting edge - there's a lot of parallels and consequences you can relate to stuff that is going on now - especially in the first book - current research into transhumanism taken to new levels, elite attitudes to the general populace, politics, corruption, tech advances, etc. A bit of sex thrown in for light relief if you'll excuse the pun.
There is also a related book called Thin Air but with different characters. That one chops around a bit and took a couple of reads to really pick up on everything.
These will lead you on to Black Man (now renamed '13' for the usual stupid reason) and Market Forces by same author.
If you fancy a modern reworking of Orwells 1984 try Blind Faith by Ben Elton - you'll appreciate the parallels to current social trends and manipulation. Brilliant social commentary. Another Sci-Fi of his is This Other Eden. Both have good funny moments but he does know how to write and make his points. Not your run of the mill Sci-Fi and really good reads.
I've got most of his books now. The latest being a real piss take on the DEI community called Identity Crisis - bits of that had me in stitches, as did Dead Famous.
