Saw him live before he retired from stand-up to concentrate on writing. He's recently done a couple of live shows. Apparently gets massive stage fright and chucks up before each performance.I've never read anything by Ben Elton. Probably simply because I don't like the guy!
I like his social commentary novels, not so much when he delves into historical stuff.
Best ones for me: Blind Faith, This Other Eden, Identity Crisis, Dead Famous, Chart Throb, Inconceivable (semi autobiographical), Popcorn. Stark and Gridlock cover topical subjects and make some great points but are are earlier books and not quite as well written.
Dark satirical comedy. If you can get past your dislike for him as a person, with your sense of humour you'd enjoy the books.
