i bought a decat pipe for my freelander from wing speed i have now fitted the pipe and it goes a hell of a lot bettet i got 9 bhp more and you can tel i would recomend the decat pipe to all freelander tdi.s
Its worthwhile on the l-series diesel. I did it on my rover 420 (same engine) and it makes quite a bit of difference.
The reason- allows more exhaust gas to escape quicker, spinning the turbo up a bit quicker and also helping refill the cylinders. Well something like that anyway.
my haynes manual says it a cat converter . yes had it on rolling road its gon from 96 bhp at 4200 rpm to 115 bhp at 4200rpm dont no about fuel consumption yet but not botherd as i would rather have the xtra get up and go i am more than happy with the decat pipe
Mr Haynes is wrong, they are Particulate Filters on Diesels. Most people do call them Cats though, even some of the "Technicians" ( Sorry Dave and Roger, I'll wash my mouth out with soap.... ) in the Trade.
I had a look at the "cat" on mine the other day and was thinking I dread trying to get those bolts undone! So much rust on them I can barely make them out!
How much was the decat pipe? Do you have alink to their website please?
ebay seller wingy777
as for the bolts a wire brush wd40 and a efin big bar and socket took me about 25 mins to change it new gaskets from landrover £1.50
They also call rotary couplers "clocksprings",
Defender lamp guards are "Grille de feu",
bulkheads are dash panels.
Freelander towing electrics are listed under chassis parts ?!!
Defender 300 TDi EGR systems under cooling....
I could go on as the list is never ending
I used to have a full head of hair till I started this job
