Defecting to RR 2.5 from a Disco TD5?

Gecko 03

Shifting Up
I'm thinking about changing my 2003 TD5 ES Auto for a slightly older P38, probably HSE or Vogue 2.5 diesel, 2001 ish.

Most of my driving is on road but 5% or less is off road and towing a horse box. I'm attracted by the all round air suspension of the Rangie, they seem very comfortable but I've not driven one. I also like the interior and I'm hoping it might be a little quieter than the TD5 which thrums a bit at anything above 68 mph.

The TD5 has rear air suspension but coils at the front and overall the ride is OK but not great.
I'm not so attracted by 25 or less mpg of the rangie (Disco returns 26 to 28) and I've heard the air suspension can be troublesome.

I'd be grateful to hear from anyone who runs one of these cars, to hear their experinces of ownership.

Many thanks,

The only advice I would give is, don't rush and buy the first one you see. They are either excellent or a nightmare. The Diesel versions we usually keep and Retail them, the Petrols we rarely keep.

Make sure everything works and there are not lights on the dash. They have a habit of lowering and raising themselves at will. JONV8 is the man to talk to about the electrical side and Huey is the man to ask about the driving experience (though his is a V8)

The BMW engine is usually trouble free.

Chris

Thanks Chris. This is very helpful indeed. I'll give any ony I look at a good going over. At least I should'nt have to worry about the engine too much!

Cheers,

I used to have a 2000 year diesel auto, Autobiography, when i sold it it had done 130000 miles, and relatively trouble free driving, Usual things were replaced, brakes, battery, and i had to have a starter motor and one rear suspesion bag, 22ish mpg, and excellent for towing. I only replaced it because i fancied a Range Rover sport.

Thanks Envoy,

So there are some good ones about. Think I've decided tio stick with the TD5 for now.

I do like the range rover sport. Superb styling and apparently superb ride and handling. Even Clarkson rated it so it can't be bad. I'll keep buying the lottery tickets in hope....
