Defender front washer - urgent

edwardmagee

In Second Gear
Hi,

The front part of my front windscreen washer flew of my defender while driving down the motorway. ?Have bought a replacement from ;landrover dealer bargain six pounds but am short on time. There were two parts inh the bag, a small cylinder with a spring and ball inside and a larger part with the nossel in. The problem I am having is that the pieces do not seem to fit into the parts attached to my defender. Am i being a moron (granted very likely) or can someone help me with this as my wife is taking the car for a three week, family visiting, trip in 8 days time and would like to be able to cleen the window without leaning out with a bottle of water.

thanks for anyhelp

Do you mean the nozzle came off? Like in the picture below? To change it you take the ash tray out, and you can access the nut holding it on from the inside. It's quite fiddly to get at, helps if you have small hands, I got my next door neighbor's kid to help. ;)

Yep, you have to change the whole thing. It's not difficult, even my mum managed to do hers once, and she's the most mechanically inept person I know... :D

No you don't - they sell a kit which is just the front bit that pushes on and stays on with a bit of glue. Big time saver once you know about it :D

Ed,

As you already have the bit, replacement is easy enough.

Take the ashtray out of the dashboard, the with a set of long nose pliers pull the washer pipe from the back of the jet. Then, however you find easiest, remove the nut.

Its a bit fiddly to do this way but saves taking the whole dash off.
