I wanted to check something with the collected wisdom of the forum: Our 2005 Defender has had a restarting problem for a while - starts happily, drive for a short period, then won't restart after stopping.
After the last repeat of this, we've had the vehicle recovered to our local main dealer, with the AA patrol diagnosing lack of power to fuel pump.
Dealer has dropped out the tank and called to say the hose is 'not latching' onto the pump correctly, so the 'fuel is bypassing the pump' so fuel lines AND pump need to be replaced. He is adamant that the fuel line attachment to the pump is not replaceable, so despite the pump working fine, the whole assembly needs to be replaced.
It seems here on the forum that LR fuel pumps might need replacement at around ten years, which is the age of ours, so I thought a quick check was in order - does it sound reasonable?
i am only suspicious as I have replaced a fuel pump on a 1600 xflow in the past (which was is not the same at all, I know!) and am surprised that fuel line attachments are not replaceable. Or am I just being spun a line here?
