Disco1 3.9 V8i Ignition Problem

In Second Gear
:( Please help me. Started the above car one morning no problem. It then died and hasn't started since. There was no mechanical noises to suggest anything catastrophic. It turns over lovely but won't fire. I've checked the fuel pump, fuel filter and all is good (fuel is getting to the plugs). All the plugs and leads check out ok. Got a weak spark when testing the plugs so replaced the coil with new one. Distributor cap is all good, likewise the rotor arm. Unfortunately still got a weak spark. Did the recommended tests with a multimeter between the battery, coil and ignition module. All were good apart from spurious readings from the ig module so that got changed. Bloody thing still won't start. I'd love to be able to afford to chuck it at a landy dealer and tell them to fix it, but I can't. Please help!

If it's injecting fuel and not sparking, it's probably washed the bores.
Take the plugs out and put a bit of oil in the bores and leave it overnight. That will get some more compression.

Have you tried the plug leads yet? Change the king lead from the coil to the distributor cap.

All the leads are less than a year old. There was a weak spark before and then the meter tests suggested that the ig amplifier module was faulty so that was changed today (pig of a job). As yet I haven't checked the spark (sun was too bright) Will be checking that in a few moments. I know this sounds silly, but can the timing "jump"? wouldn't that mean that the cam chain has slipped? Is this possible?

Dizzy hasn't really been touched apart from to remove and replace the amplifier which was fairly tricky. Good old Haynes manual suggests that the pick-up coil in the dizzy could be at fault. Would it be worth checking out?

Right, I've checked the resistance on the pick-up and that's fine, I would be surprised if all the leads and plugs were to fail at the same time. Replaced the king lead as suggested and nothing changed. Have done a static timing set-up and nothing was amiss. Have discovered that the advance/retard vacuum is faulty and that is being replaced. checked al the l/t wiring and found a few nicks which have now been sorted. STILL NOT STARTING!!! Seriously considering getting very drunk now. this is so frustrating:confused::confused::confused:

I would concider Templars advise about wasing the bores ... hapens a bit on the bigger Jags i am told after the failure of an ignition part
