Do I have a wading kit installed?

Looking for my start motor today, I noticed 3 tubes leading from somewhere down low up to the top of my engine compartment, all bent round like snorkels. They are no more than 8mm O/D but wondered if they form part of a breathing kit.

your axles have breathers on them you should have one for the front axle and one for the transferbox and one for the rear axle.. youre right it's for breathing but you also need a bellhousing and timing cover plug to make sure everything else says dry. there's little threaded holes on the bottom of these areas ;)

The rear axle one is tucked away at the rear of the vehicle. The third one in the engine bay will be the gearbox breather.

What sort of wading would you use the plugs.

Going through a ford & general big puddles when laning, or only if in prolonged water eg wading up a stream etc.

Hope that makes sense.

Cheers.

Andy.

Probably get a few that won't agree with this , but i leave my wading plugs in all the time and once a month undo them to let anything that may want to leak out dribble away . Nothing ever comes out . My local specialist told me to do that , keeps all the road crap out see .

If you don't want to do that then whenever you go laning or offroading then the plugs need to be in . You will have to extend that rear axle breather though .If that gets blocked then say goodbye to your hub seals .:D

Hi All!

Just forded a river here which turned out to be a lot deeper the other side than in the middle where it was above my knees (about 65cm). Back home I suspected water may have got into the rear axle and was chagrined to find that the breather vents just over the axle (about 75cm).

Changed the oil just in case, and extended the breather into the engine compartment where it should have been in the first place.

I recommend this to anyone with a similar model

Regards
