Ex snow plough SIII in Sweden

In Third Gear
Hi!

New to the forum and also Land rovers. Acquired my first one today, a series 3 109 station wagon previously fitted with a snowplough which gives a few extra features. Electric hydraulic pump for lifting the plough for example.

My question is not about these parts though but simply what the experience are of the Land Rovers headlight wipers? Are they efficient enough worth restoring and using? They’ll definitely stay on regardless but I’m just curious!

As u can see its in mint condition…
(Be patient with my writing, I’m from Sweden!😉)

Never seen headlight wipers fitted in the Uk I assume they are more use to stop the build up of snow on the lights.

That's interesting safari top on snow plough, mint condition well lets see the restored version. welcome
Yes, interesting combo. Although I’m happy since the summers here nowadays often peaks with temperatures around 29-31 Celsius.
A timed webasto diesel heater helps heating it up in the winter.
Will be a semi daily driver all year round, combined with my RRC -85.

@Serious Series I’ve never seen them either. The snow buildup is a problem here on many cars so I hope they’ll help!

Will post a picture in a few hours on the fitted overdrive as well for identification! 🙂

That’s a first for me never seen them on a series or many other come to think of it ..she’s a cracker .think in my opinion if it was mine I would definitely try restoring them if they don’t work ..after all it’s a land rover nothing is going to work 100% correct 🤣..and certainly leave them on there it’s got character.
Welcome to the forum …

So that's what those wipers look like in real life. I'd only seen them in the parts book before!
What an interesting vehicle, looks like a great project to enjoy/use.
Yes it got its personality! I was most surprised by the electric-hydraulic pump that was used with the plough.
Can I rename the thread-title? I realize this is turning into a project documentation more than just some words around the wipers.. ;)

Btw, I'm missing one roof-vent. Does anyone got a spare for sale?

Hi again! New to Land Rover Series I need to ask: Is my car missing sills?
Don't see any problems with it as is, but i realise that other series has them.
The car has now gotten wheels from a Defender and tires in better condition. Pretty big order from JohnCraddock is on its way as well.

Nice to see this thread come back for some more action. I was wondering how things were going... 😀
Nice to hear that it's appreciated!
Well, the engine runs ok for now. Started up after 6 months of winter rest (outside) after 5-6 turns on the starter in +5 degrees.
Trying to change one wheel/day and clean each wheel/brake/susp-area for inspection. Identifying what needs to be done. Goal is a usable all-year-around car and not a complete restoration.
Clutch cylinder had a nasty looking lid. Swivels are a bit greasy as well. Cleaned worst of the grease off to be able to judge swivel surface.

12 (almost seized) leafs in the front explains the hard ride!

Hmmm. I think "fooked" might be nearer the mark. They have definitely seen better days.
Yes, I'm unwillingly agreeing with you.
Unfortunately this car is on a tight budget due to my growing pile of expensive hobbies (and life!). So new leafs will have to wait.. Parabolics when it's time?
Btw, if someone wants to help out with buying from UK and ship private I would be very happy!

If the rears are as bad, then yes paras is an option. If the rears are ok then stay standard. They don't mix and match.

I know all about the tight budget.... It's a common ailment nowadays 🤣

As u can see the leafs are deformed. Is it worth the trouble to take them apart, wire-clean them, paint, lube up and put back together or is it replacement time right away?

You can strip and clean/grease the springs it only costs you your time and a bit of paint and grease if they improve the ride/handling that’s good if not then you’ve tried and know it’s replacement time

The worst of doing it yourself is the clamps that are folded round the leafs to hold them in line. (Looks like you have one broken off already) Need oxyacetylene really. Otherwise worth a shot, what's to lose? You may find some leafs are cracked right in the centre, where the pin goes through, in which case they're scrap. If not, it's a win.

I have often wondered if there was any merit in putting thin leaves of PTFE between the leaves ..dunno. I went parabolic.
