Flying - whats allowed in hand luggage these days?

dave dickson

Overdrive!
Im flying tomorrow - Ryanair in the morning France to Stanstead, Easyjet in the afternoon Luton to Aberdeen...GRRRRReat.

Anyway, both website are pretty vague about whats allowable in the cabin at the moment. The usual about gels and liquids, but no specific mention of electrical stuff. I have a laptop and GPS thingy to take and dont fancy packing it in my checked bags.

You will be able to take it on board as hand luggage, but not allowed to switch on with the wireless etc enabled during the flight!

I think you are obliged to carry your laptop and have it available for inspection.

Roger,

All went well, I had to take the laptop out the bag and have it scanned seperately, but no problems at all.

On a rather different note, on both flights, the back of the seat in front of me was covered in used chewing gum, stuck to the tray and armrest buts.
Should be punishable by death.

You'd be amazed - I have flown several aircraft on their first operational days' service. In each instance, after four sectors the carpet had 10-15 stamped in pieces of gum, as well as the more general litter, crushed Pringles and stolen life jackets. The worst instance was a day with a brand new aircraft and running 20 minutes early, and one passenger smeared excrement on the wall of the toilet. We had it professionally cleaned on arrival, but the panel is permanently stained. It just goes to show the mentality of many passengers these days, and why the crews are so often unfriendly and fed up - four trips a day, every day, for years on the trot turns you against all but the most decent of passengers. Roll on the day where they gas the passengers at check-in, crate them up and ship them as freight - no more missed slots because some idiot is still in the bar or shops, no more disruptive passengers, no more filthy cabins, no more security/hijack problems.

Now don't start giving your boss any ideas... :D
