Fog light braking oddity!

Geobloke

Posting Guru
Howdy. Right then this is a litle odd. Over the weekend we had some serious for out Sandbach way and I was running around with Eva's rear fog light on (I wish other people were doing the same Gggrrrrr) and ever since then when I hit the brake pedal the fog warning light on the dash comes on, even when the fog light isn't on!!!

Even more biazarre is that if you put the fog light on without the headlights or side lights and touch the brake the headlights flash on and off!!

How odd. any ideas why people?

Just a stab in the dark...poor earthing, dont ask me how or why, its like the mid eighties fords, press the brake and the indicators would glow or visa versa.

I would go for the powertrain to chassis earth point, I had similar problems with mine, the foglight warning would glow when electrical load was applied, I fitted new earth cable from gearbox to chassis and its been fine ever since.

Yea,. I reckon it's possesed by the devil or other evil spirit....:D

seriously though, I would agree that an earthing problem seems to be the favourite. When you have a poor earth on a lighting circuit, the current will try and find an easier route to take which can often be through other lamps/components.....

That is a possibility, maybe it got dislodged when I went through the ford on the way home on sunday!! Hmmm worth a check.

I had an early 90 that did this, and it took me about three months to find the cause of the problem, which turned out to be that a couple of bare wires that had been covered in insulation tape by a previous owner, the tape had come loose causing the wires to touch and when current flowed through one wire i.e. the brake light it completed the circuit on the second wire which happened to be the fog light and caused the bulb to light. so check the fuses and the wires behind them.

This is almost identical to a problem I had about six weeks ago…

Mine turned out to be the Tow bar electrics!

I ended up disconnecting the Tow bar fog light connection where it is spliced onto the main loom (behind the O/S rear light panel) and all was well.

I presume it was damp/moisture in the actual socket?

A good squirt with WD40 is probably all thats required…

Worth a stab.

Ok this is just bloody weird man! Last night i was telling woodchippings about the problem and told him about the evil spirit (called Lucas) that had taken up residence in Evas electrics.

So for a joke he said i'll say a prayer for eva, then this afternoon the fault has completely gone!!!!!

I'll have to ask him whether he did say a prayer but even if he didn't maybe just the threat scared the evil Lucas spirit away!!!! ;)
