Freebie did me proud

Worked a treat in the snow this morning - going up hills no two-wheeled vehicle could manage. Tried the HDC for the first time... crawled great down a steep hill, though light didn't appear on dash - is this common? I'm pretty sure I was in HDC mode.

Had to make a detour on the way back - some bloke had overturned his 06 Disco3 in the lane  had the camera on me, though I don't think he would've been chuffed if I'd taken a snap.

Ours did extremely well going up the hill that other cars couldn't get up. It's just a shame it skidded into the kerb on the way down :(

i was sort of impressed but after a life of defenders/series/discos all with high/low box and decent tyres along with diesel engines i didn't feel as safe as i did in them...mind you the freebie has stupid 17inch wheels on with fekkin' racing car tyres on lol so i guess it wasn't too bad.trying hard to find some decent tyres for it but i think im gonna have to drop down to 16 inch wheels to get summat decent - can't find anything all terrain in 17 inch:rolleyes:

Ah, I've found the green HDC light! Only needed to engage it properly! HDC worked well in reverse - took three attempts at one steep, bendy, 3/4 mile long hill, the HDC really helped when going down backwards for another stab. Rickyroo1 - I emphasise... I'm running Michelin Synchros on 17"ers - I would've got up the hill first time if I hadn't had road-biased tyres .

Got back from a play up at Rivington just before midnight. Lots of cars doing the same but slipping all over the place on the steep bits. Freeby did well though - first time out in snow :)

Once more unto the snows, my friends, once more... Freda was stunning last night in the Midlands blizzard. But then she was last year as well. The thing that impressed me most though was the ease at which she towed my mates Galaxy up his drive, then onward to the garage it was booked into.

Brilliant cars.

My 1.8 2000 Freelander's head gasket went on Thursday last week, I had only had the car seven days! I could drive it for ten min at a time before it overheated. When the snow hit Cheshire on Thursday I took a chance and tried some back roads on steep hills near my home. Cars were sliding about all around and all but mine failed to make it to the top. It may have looked like smugness when I pulled over and watched for 20 min as other cars tried and failed, but actually I was waiting for the engine to cool before going home. The car under warranty and is having a high spec gasket fitted as I type this. I will have it back tomorrow and pray I haven't missed all the snow for this year.

U will want the uprated head done too if its under warranty as the gasket will most certainly blow again. Espescially if u have been driving it around til it overheats, its not going to do it any favours.

Could you clarify 'Up rated head'. The head was skimmed when the new gasket was fitted, is this sufficent to prevent reocurrence. I have the car back now and all seems well.
I only drove the car a little way and would not have driven at all if I new it was going to make matters worse.
Everything sofar has been covered by the dealer, infact with so little fuss it was like they were expecting it, as stated I had only had the car 7 days when it went.

With the uprated (lotus spec)gasket does anyone out there know if I am to still expect problems with the gasket?

my dealer did mine before i took the car away,he said he always does as a matter of course...i am led to belive the uprated multi layer head gasket solves all problems as much as can be as long as the head is skimmed and pressure tested. in the march issue of land rover enthusiast it is shown in detail and makes interesting reading.
