Freelander 1 howling noise

My Freelander 1 is making a really loud howling noise from underneath it usually always does it when setting off and then is intermittent throughout the journey can’t really say it’s speed related or braking it just seems random. The noise still happens if you take your foot of the accelerator. It’s always there but just a faint rumbling sound but then will all of sudden go incredibly loud sounds like wind howling through something.
I’m aware I need new brakes there to be fitted this week but can’t imagine this causing the problem?
