Front bearing oil seal

Does any one know how far the front bearing oil seal the outer one goes into the hub


The maunul states measure the old one yet the previous person put it in the wrong way round i think should not the lip ( the bit with the spring) be up against the bearing again any advice please?

The manual states use tool LST550-5 and depth determined by the tool.
I have a suitable drift

I got the early disco 1 hub up to JA032850
