Headlamp Removal - 03 Disco Series 2

Gecko 03

Shifting Up
I'm trying to replace the headlamp bulbs on my 2003 facelifted Disco. Does anyone know how to get these plastic headlamp housings off?

I've removed the two phillips screws at the top (marked A and B), tilted the housing forward and pulled it off its lower ball and socket fixing at the bottom on the outside corner. But its still held by another fixing on the inside edge adjacent to the radiator grille. I suspect this is another ball and socket job but I've pulled as hard as I dare and it has not budged. All that has happened is the plastic body coloured trim at the bottom of the housing has come adrift.

Thought I'd ask here before busting the whole unit through ignorance of the right method.

Would be grateful for any advice anyone can offer.
Thanks

Looking in my owner's handbook.......

"Open the flap(1) and remove the 3 screws as indicated.Pull the light unit forward and disconnect the electrical multi-plug(2) to release the unit."

Recommend you look for the third screw.
Page 214 has the picture,if you have the handbook.
(Inside edge towards the bottom,if you don't.)

You have to remove the front grille first, have you done this??
Regards,
Nick.

Nick,

Thanks very much for the excellent info. You're a star. I had not removed the grille so without you good advice I was well on the way to a very expensive sharp tug!

I got the job done successfully this afternoon. All sorted and not difficult if you know how. It's a bit strange that you cant easily do a roadside bulb replacement though...but never mind, it is a Land Rover after all!

Thank you again. Much appreciated.
