Headlights

Accelerating Away
Guys, this morning I switched on the headlights, sidelamps fine, dipped fine but when I switch in the bright the passenger side headlamp goes off completely, even the dipped, and the driver's side has bright switched on and fine, the side lamps remain on. Any idea what could be the problem?

Also I have sidelamps switching on in the headlamps as well as on the sides, I thought I had sealed beam units but now I am not sure, could this be some sort of conversion or mod by the previous owner.

It's a 1988 90 TD by the way.

Thanks

the side lights shold be on all the time your headlights are on..this is standard... the small bulbs in the headlights only come on for the dipped beam and when just using the sidelights on their own. when you swith the lights to dipped beam the small bulb in the headlight is meant go out when the mainbeam and dipped are on. so from what it sounds like is your headlight bulbs gone (the big one) if the bulbs okay start from the fuses and work back (cheep things first)

good luck
dave

Yeah just sounds like youve had new headlamps put in with integral side lights and that your main beam filiment int the headlamp bulb has gone. Easiest check is to stick a new headlamp bulb in..

Then go from there
