Overdrive!
:( Acquired a hi-line r990 radio cassette and plugged in, but no volume. Does it need underseat amplifier - which isn't fitted - to work, or is it the wiring?
 
Yep, that alpine head unit requires amps and xross-overs in the doors, it has direct connections to each speaker (yes all 12 of them, i think) It also connects direct to the headphone sockets in the boot and the sub in the back door. Mine stopped working after i left the front sunroof open one night, and when i turned it on water poured out the bottom. Looked at the cheaper head unit to replace it with, but the wiring was so complicated, i took a chance and bought one from a breakers and it worked....:D
