Historic vehical registration

bmel

In Third Gear
the registration v5 of my Series 11,states the date of registration was18/11/1988,declared manufactured 1958,rebuilt-assembled from parts some or all of which were not new.it also has a three letter and three number on the plate, can this be registered as an historic vehicle ie tax exempt,if so what do i do to get this, thanks BM:rolleyes:

The Law states that all vehicles except buses and Lorries used commercially, that were constructed before 1 January 1973 may tax in the 'historic vehicle' tax class.
As your vehicle is a bit of an anomaly being registered in 1988 though having been manufactured in 1958 you may just stand a chance to haved it declared historic, best to contact your Local DVLA and ask advice.

My S3 was first registered in Feb 1973, but according the Gaydon it was built in Dec 1972, so I get historic status on it. A heritage certificate for your vehicle is the first major step towards getting historic classification. You will most likely have to get the vehicle inspected as well.

Biggest thing you gotto watch out for is if the chassis is original or new.. Second hand gets you close to a Q plate!
