how to demist the windows

James Withnall

Accelerating Away
i have a 2004 td5 landmark

i find on wet days with a full car of passangers (5 People) that the windows are continually fogging up, i have the climate control set to 20 degs and full auto, i also have the rear and front screen demists on however these only last a few minutes and then when they switch off the glass fogs up again.

in my last freelander it was possible to have the aircon on and the heating, the aircon would dehumidify the air and i would have clear glass

any suggestions, am i doing something wrong or is this just normal for a disco in winter

have you got a leak somewhere?? my defender leaks everywhere and when it gets wet and i turn the heater on full, it has a sauna effect.

after a good rain go out and check under all the carpets for moisture

cheers

thanks Dave, i dont think ive got a leek however i will check under the carpets as you suggest, after all it is a landrover so probably is leeking

Hiya, it sounds like your AC isn't working all that well, from what I have been told AC should clear misty windows quite quickly. I will give the td5 110 i am driving this week a test demist later, this AC stuff is new to me I usually just open the windows. Isn't AC really bad for fuel consumption???

Might be worth getting the system checked over!

geibloke thanks,

i will check the aircon later, normally i do open the wind or sunroof on tilt but it was pi---ing with rain so didnt this time.

how do you put the aircon on whilst the heating is set at 20degs on a disco??

james

It must be on on AUTO

Check that "econ" mode is not shown on display. If it is, try pressing Auto or Econ button once more.
But it looks to me as if your A/C is out of order

I too have the same problem. I think this is one of the features of climate: When I used to control it manually (on the 300Tdi), I thought nothing of moving the dials to blow on the windows (the obvious choice). We therefore assume that the climate will do the same. Of course it will not, it's not that bright!!

Simply change the controls to blow onto the windows (and wherever else you choose) and all will become clear again. I don't mean the fierce anti-mist setting, as this deafens you, just the normal electronic controls. I also find, just like every other car I have owned, that opening a window for a couple of minutes helps greatly.

Don't start pulling the air-con apart. It's a user error, honest.

If you do still need to open your windows to clear the mist up the maybe some wind deflectors would be a good alternative to getting wet.
