how windy is it?

nobber

Extreme Landy Fan
just been on the phone to a breakers yard and was told to call back tomorrow as 'its way to dangerous to go outside today'.
how windy is that?

i am now constructing a kite out of a couple of 7 tonne lifting strops and a table top.

Mrs Seriesowner has just informed me that our garden is now a lot bigger. No fence between us and next door!:D

They've just cordoned off part of Victoria street in London. I've just seen one of the shops opposite my place of work lose its large shopfront signboard, it nearly fell on top of a passing pedestrian before smashing on the pavement. Fortunately she saw it coming down and managed to dodge out of the way.

Also lost 2 fence panels from back fence. got lots of bits falling down chimney. large bird just done kamikazee dive in to front window. and I'm watching the Large bay windows of the house opposite distorting the reflection as the wind hits it. It's about 8'x4' and a single glazed pane of glass. definatly a possible casualty.

I've just seen a puddle disappear at the bottom of the loading bay ramp. it went up hill!! now i know i've got special powers over women but making water go up hill is just showing off.

Oh saw one of those pesky cyclists get blown off his bike.... I couldn't hide my feelings :D he swore at me and rode off only for it to happen again 200 yards down the road (much to the delight of the builders sat in their van :D:D

Where are these wimps located? I motorcycled in to work today (Maidstone to London) and it was fine!

My kids 14ft trampoline which was fastened down with steel wire and large stones I am informed has blown over the 8 ft wall next to it and is in next doors garden! plus at least one roof tile off.

Probably more an H&S issue bonnets flying round stacks of cars moving etc.

That or their combined weight is all thats holding the site caravan down and if one of them leaves it, the others could end up in Kansas:D

sorry to hear that, but i'm sure you'll bounce back :D :D :D

Yah boo etc.
I motorcycled from Reading to London (do it every day). I considered switching my engine off on the M4 though (the large fairing was acting as a sail). The wind was behind me, not really looking forward to the trip home:rolleyes:

Its cracking! Love the wind to bits but i think the recorded 65kts is a tad too much for me to go out kitesurfing:D

Phone call from home, have lost one fence panel. But my back in our garden under lots of bricks so it doesn't go anyway again.

Our fence is still standing :)

Mostly because I braced it after it fell over last week

Our neighbours have lost about 18 feet of fence between them tho.

And our Border Terrier nearly got blown away.

Nearly next to us at work, 3 units up the road, is the main Vauxhall garage, a substantial part of the roof has blown off their showroom and landed on their forecourt cars. Mostly their own new cars but some customers cars too, looks to be at least 10 cars damaged.

I have just been eastbound on the A14, I thought the Disco was going very well, dipped the clutch and it went even faster with the wind behind me.

Seriously, very windy, came back via some back roads, loads of trees down and very difficult to drive in a straight line.

The wind has died down a little for now here. So far, from what I know in the area, the following has happened:

Double Decker Bus has been put on its side.
My College is closed for an unknown amount of time due to severe structural failure on the main building.
My old Secondary school is shut (know this from my sister) due to partial collapse of a roof.
Some poor sod got crushed in their car when a building lost part of its wall, adjacent to one of the busiest roads into Oldham.
Mother's house's chimney has been blown down, with bricks all over the roof.
Several very large trees are lying on their sides now.
Several areas of the town centre closed off due to damage to various buildings' structures.

I think that's enough of the list I saw in just a span of two hours this afternoon, going to and then returning from the currently shut college.

This isn't including what's happened to the house and garden. :(
