I got a job!

stevo

Trekker
Just heard from BAA Gatwick - formal offer of a job as Security Officer :D

Pays about 20k, shift work, with a start date of 2nd April....

Trouble is, my 110 might have to go, as its too tall to fit in the car park :(

Which means I will buy a disco instead

congrats
why not aquire a "small" car for commuting

Eurgh, no thanks! I've waited too long to get a landy to be without now..

My wife has a punto, but doesn't want to drive the 110 on a regular basis, and I'll be doing 4 days on, 2 off. We can't afford two cars really.... never mind three!

Having said that, I can see a day where my wife has her nice Punto, and I have a disco and a lightweight :)

on behalf of 110 owners could I make a plea that you examine the reason for the height restriction and if possible get it raised. This is a real problem in so many places, they just put an arbitrary 6ft or 2m barrier without thinking.

don't know what your tyres are now - but 600s instead of 750s ?

motorbike or - pushbike - not only will you have a job you will save money on petrol and be superfit

I'm not relishing the thought of a 4am cycle to Gatwick! grim...
However, motorbike, theres a thought. I reckon I could squeeze in to my leathers still :)

agreed - I am emailing the HR people to try and get a car park allocated that will take 2.1m
The best they can say at the moment is "a large 4x4 will fit"

1st congrats on the job. :) Great news, really pleased for you.

2nd I have gone really slowly under a 6'6" or 7" I think it was & the bar gives way before the roof. Attach a sheet of steel plate on your roof to protect & then surruptiously raise the height by increasing tyre pressure.. a couple of wks ought do it.
If I get mine running again I'll have a practice on the pub carpark up the road just to find out if that is a really stupid bit of advice or not first.

Good news about the job Steve, not so good about the 110. :) :(

Disco is great, but without sunroof and roof rack bars its 1.94 metres, with the roof bars about 1.98 and the sunroof (they assume you go in with it open!) its 2.04M I think.

I have to use the underground car park, under a hotel in Southampton Row, for a couple of the scanners I work on from time to time and I can't help ducking myself when I go down the ramp!

Well done again.

Roger.
