I have relatives in Ontario, They've had enough Ice on local electric pylon cables to buckle the legs and bring them down.
Thats gotta a fair amount of ice!!!

Great pics, hope they remembered their antifreeze:D

Just wondering guys and thinking it would be more likely to be a big area of freshwater as the sea doesn`t usually get as cold as that in inhabited areas .Lake Geneva sounds feasible Lake Baikal could be another. Stockholm I don`t know the geography of Dave.

I have seen images like this from the shores of some of Americas great lakes...the wind whips across the surface picking up water but because the air is so cold the water freezes the moment it touches anything....bit like freezing rain, but horizontal :)

The sea around Helsinki usually freezes and to a thickness that is enough to support cars.

When we lived there it was possible to cut my drive to work from 20 minutes to 5 by just driving in a straight line

Here's what Helsinki harbour should look like at winter
