Is my battery knackered ?

Accelerating Away
Hi all.

Embarrassingly my 90 has been sitting idle since November. On Tuesday decided to get her running but naturally the battery was flat. After about fifteen minutes connected to the Jimny :o it started no problem. Took her for a good run of about an hour. Went out this morning and the battery was virtually flat again , managing about one turn before dying. So have I damaged the battery by leaving it dead so long ? The battery itself is probably around two years old.

Thanks , wise ones.

agree - needs a minimum 16hr trickle charge.

dont forget to take the tops of if it's not the sealed type ;)

oh and don't charge it in yr bedroom ffs  gases given off are not very pleasant for **** sapiens :)

Experience tells me you'll be buying a new battery :( , but as suggested you might as well give it a go by giving it a proper charge. Leave for a day and then check voltage with a voltmeter.

Cheers

Steve

Same thing happened to me a month ago. It would start nicely after being driven for a while but next day it would be almost flat. It took 24 hrs to charge it and so far it seems to be fine for month now.

You could try draining it, flushing it through, and refilling with fresh sulphuric acid (diluted with 75% water I think). I did it years ago and brought a dead battery back to life and it lasted for ages after that. Mind you, getting hold of sulphuric acid in this namby pamby world we live in now is probably nigh on impossible:(

cheers, Tim

Any decent motor factors will supply you with battery acid.

as ELIPS says, put it on charge, i had a battery on a ldv van that ket going down over night, the vehicle is only used every now and again, took the battery off and left it hooked up to the charger for a week, the battery came back up and has not let us down since, i would give this a go first, if you dont need the vehicle for the time being,

a cheap thing to try first, might work might not
