SWMBO is leaving her job soon for a new and more blingier (like thats a word) one.
So we now have to say bye bye to our free broadband that we've had for the past couple of years.

She rang around the usual ISP suspects and found that Talk Talk were offering unlimited broadband, inclusive of connection for £19.99 per month (the cheapest of the bunch)

Are there any more hidden charges says she?
They say no, just that one monthly payment.

NOW.....
We are with BT at the mo, and someone has now mentioned that we would still need to pay our normal BT line rental £11.99 pm I think.

Has anyone joined with said ISP and is this the case?

To get broadband (unless it is satellite broadband) you need an ADSL line BT has the monopoly on these I am afraid and as such you would have still have to pay BT for an ADSL line. The cheapest option for broadband at present is with Orange who if you take out one of their contract phones will give you unlimited broadband for free during the life of the contract.

I'm talking from the back passage atm.. I might be able to use proper terms later when one of the offspring return.
Read carefully the amount of bandwidth that is being offered and whether or not they use words like:- 'when available' or 'reasonable useage'
With some company's you might have to share your 2,4 or 8 meg, depending on how many other users are connected to the same box at the same time.
Sharing might not slow things down to the point of feeling like dial-up.. but once you are use to the speed or you use programs that need the width you could find the cheaper options more frustrating.
By that time the small print could say you've signed for a yr & cannot change without loosing out on the deal.
Talk talk had me worried once, when they came round. I was most concerned by the pushy sales technique. Reading the 'cool off period' & the prices charged to their helpline put me off bigtime.
 
Don't go anywhere near Orange! Tiscally are about the same level. As always you get what you pay for. Do you download a lot or just surf?

Have a look at www.adslguide.org I am with Vivaciti, 30gig peak and 300gig off peak limit for £19.99 a month. I was with BT for 7 years, good service untill they wanted to charge for going over their limit once. If you just surf and only download a bit try BT. A friend had Talktalk and has a lot of trouble getting emails.

Im with what used to be Virgin (no monthly contract) and have had no problems with them. They have now become something else (Virginmeadia or somthing), but i've heard some ok things about it, might be woth a look.

We're on Pipex at the moment through her work.

The Talk Talk option still looks the best priced (FREE) with our BT line rental we'll still only be paying £12 per month.
