Kelmarsh / Billing

geoffg

Overdrive!
February's LRe just dropped through the door. On the page for booking
Kelmarsh is a list of traders booked for the show. Apart from Anchor Supplies, they're all the smaller traders. The list for Billing looks more enticing.
LRe have even swelled their list by including their own shop, their toy shop and Pete Wilford.
Dont see Craddocks, DLS or Simmonites on either list. APB's on both.
Getting very near to decision time. Rebel's on the LRM list:)
geoff:dance:

I certainly wouldn't rely on that list of traders.
They were spouting all these traders last year before anyone confirmed.
Brunel Performance I know for a fact are at Billing, so you have to wonder how many others are.

I have said before in another thread that the traders that are on the LRM site are confirmed and paid up bookings by the traders.
LRE did have (not sure if still advertised) a list of traders that had provisionally booked.
A meeting was held at Billing before Xmas of which nearly 30 traders attended and they all voted in favour of attending Billing and have since paid the money.

I have got this information by speaking with several traders who attended the meeting.

Just read Simon Hoddeers page (40) in LRe. It seems that "The Billing Show" has moved lock stock and barrel to Kelmarsh, and we who thought that LRe were hosting another show same w/e as Billing are misinformed.
How can the Billing show be at Kelmarsh??
I'm off out to buy a LRW!!
geoff:)

Why blame the magazines ? Why ??

LRE can be blamed, and likewise the owners of Billing Aquadrome, but not so much LRM.

The reason for this is that the whole situation arose from the fact LRE and Billing Aquadrome could not agree certian factors, (which seem to be both dates and the amount of money each party would gain from the event.)
Either party could have resolved these issues, but they didn't, LRM only became invovled after they were approached by Billing Aquadrome. If LRM had gone in and ousted LRE from the Billing site, then that would be a different situation.

The big issue is, how much does LRE or Billing Aquadrome depend on the show for it's financial stabability as a business. It does not matter how many support the LRE kelmarsh show, as there are just as many who are voicing that they want to carry on going to Billing as they have always done. This means that both shows, if they both go ahead will have reduced numbers passing through the gates, compared to a single show on that weekend, plus the share of traders for both shows is also reduced.

As I have mentioned before, it could be a problem for either show if the finances don't stack up, esp if the money lenders (as it is unlikely either business has the full resources to finance a show without a lender of some description) suddenly decide they want their money back ASAP, to cut their losses. (better to get the money back before it has all been spent type of thing)

Which is why personally I won't be signing up for either show, and will leave my decision till last minute, unless eitehr show organisers are offering a free plot for a LRUK stand.

Anyway you cut it, having both shows on simultaneously is bad for the traders, organisers and for us. The traders and visitors will be divided, with two much smaller shows being the result. Many traders were already becoming ambivalent about the shows, citing that there were too many, and were considering withdrawing from the show circuit.

This current situation is going to ruin the best show of the year and replace it with two medicre shows, both from a visitor and commercial point. If traders subsequently decide not to go anymore, then we'll be left high and dry.

You summed the whole situation up perfectly there mate, I am thinking of giving it a miss altogether this year, i don't want to travel all that way for naff all and it's shame because the whole family enjoys it:(

Shame to miss it just cos of LRe dropping out. Look on the bright side. By moving to Kelmarsh, LRe have solved the overcrowding at Billing so the true Billing enthusiasts can still go there:)
Last year we broke the journey and stayed a weekend at Primrose Valley the weekend before Billing show.

I understand what you are saying mate, and the missus has suggested having a wee holiday for the previous week, but what bother's me is you pay a fair amount as a family to go to these show's not like it used to be £10.00 per car and this could have been easily avoided, i don't know whether to blame lre or lrm but they didn't have to put a show on the same weekend and basically diluting the billing show!

It seem's to me a bit playgroundish if you know what i mean and it's us joe punter who is going to lose out, i know some have said they are going to take a look at both but that but there is no way i would do that, i would feel like i am having to pay for someone else's mistake.

so to cap it off i am unsure as to what to do at the momentand will probally decide nearer the time

Yep, at present the Billing show has the longest list of trade stands of the two shows, the LRE Kelmarsh trade list shows all the clubs (how many clubs have confirmed either show as it venue yet, anyone know of a single club which has for sure booked a place at either show, I don't as yet) three businesses which belong to LRE and it's staff. (Note LRM aren't advertising their own trade stand on their list are they....)

Plus, look at the dates of the sites been updated, LRE site has not been touched since November.

So, what I would say is, LRE time to update your list with actual confirmed trade stands, which are Land Rover related, and let us the public see who really is attending your show and hopefully LRM is doing the same with Billing, then we the general public can decide which show to attend, if we decide to attend either show...

That will be two of us from the same neck of the woods going to neither!

What is a good alternative? Any suggestions?

Might go to the LRM show at Eastnor as it nearer home and we have enjoyed previuos ones.

We stopped camping at Billing, it was too crowded and IMHO a disaster waiting to happen, Kelmarsh looked promising but with two shows at the same time ?????
