Here you go, how to rebuild and repair your diesel distributor pump. (not easy, needs specialist tools etc, but interesting to read through.) I've posted it as I'm sure I saw somebody on here asking for the info a while back.

http://www.scribd.com/doc/38688870/CAV-DPA-Pump-Rebuild-Manual Takes a while to download, but its worth a look.

I was actually looking for the diesel engine timing tool. Found one on Dingocrofts website, but its waaaaaaaay out of my price league.

Thanks JAY JAY, very usefull to see it all in one place,I always like to know how things work. Even if I never use it myself, was it the advance tool you were looking at?You might be able to make one if it's like the timing disc for a petrol, useing a a protractor on the crank. You might be able to copy it but first you need to borrow one.

i rebuilt my cav dpa without using any special tools, just used a vice and general hand tools works fine now. patience is key.

The 'timing tool' that drops in place of the injector pump is not needed, just follow the 2a method and look thro the side opening of the injector pump and align the relevant marks.

Handy to know, thank you. I was looking as I have a spare engine, but the distributor pump is missing. I thought I would get it timed up and set the pointer in the right place ready for swapping it over (as the pump on the one I'm running is fine).

I have to admit though, I do like having the right tools! :D (for reference I've added a pic of the tool itself. See why I aint going to buy one now, dont you?)
