locking wheel nut help please

more used to discos but a colleague at work has a freelander v6 witha flat tyre. the locking wheel nut tool is knackered, the two 'fingers' inside the tool that make contact witht he nut have been worn away and now the tool will not loosen the locked nuts!

are these tools unique to the nuts? ie a matched pair? if so how can we remove the locking nut(s)? if not where can we get another tool from quickly.

we had to pump the tyre up to 40psi to get her home, and I think she will need to make a couple of stops on the way to add more air.

any ideas?

thanks in advance

On the end of the "key" there should be a letter/number, you should be able to get a new key from LR but don't know how much.

There is a socket you can get to remove the locking wheel nut, again £? or if the nut is renderd scrap afterwards.

Ah yes, each one A to J also has a corresponding number. I'm not at home at the moment so haven't got the parts book to hand - will have a look later and let you know.

Once the locking nuts are off you may wish to consider not replacing them. I removed my locking wheel nuts when I went to Morocco as if you have to change a tyre in the Sahara, the fewer problems you get the better. That was last year and I haven't bothered putting the locking nuts back on.

Once they are off, do as Robin suggested. Get rid of the locking nuts AND include the one on the spare wheel.
