MAF

Seagull1

Overdrive!
If I unplug the maf to test it ie. to see if the engine running improves,

1. does the engine fault light come on ?
2. if it does will it go out agian when the maf is pluged back in ?

tried it on mine a couple of months ago out of curiosity.with ignition off-unplugged maf-started engine-drove around the block-NO LIGHTS CAME ON-turned off engine-plugged maf back in-NO LIGHTS CAME ON-all ok.
For me it runs better with the maf connected-so mine must be in good condition-
hope this is of help..

Remove the engine top cover(if fitted) 3 bolts. Now you will see the yellow oil filler cap.the maf is located to the rear/left of the cap underneath the black air filter housing cover.you have to remove the housing(5 hex bolts) to get access to the plug connector.

Hi Guys

I feel like a bit of an idiot but I cant get the air filter cover off so i can get to the maf. I've removed the bolts from the plastic cover that surrounds the oil filler, I think this is the right cover. But its still securely attached. It feels like the cover continues down the back of the engine. Am I in the right area or is there a clip I'm missing? I have a 2004 Facelifted Freelander Sport Td4.

Thanks

Richard.

I think there are two more torx screws in the back of the cover, towards the outside extremities.

Found them! For the benefit of anyone else who wants to do the same. The two bolts at the back of the airbox are very well hidden and quite deep behind the engine but they are there! The security TORX bit needed to remove the MAF is a size 25. I've cleaned my MAF and although i've only done a quick test drive it does feel like it is picking up better when pulling away.

I use STP Carb cleaner. I try to avoid getting it on the rubber seal in case it damages it. I havent had a yellow light just an occasional reluctance when pulling away.
