Military vehicle driving experience, Sutton Coldfield

Nosnibod

Overdrive!
Noticed a new venture in Sutton Coldfield, on Camp Road. It's a "Military Vehicle Driving Experience" centre. They've got a troop carrier and a six-wheeled amphibious "thing" and they're using a 109" painted white with UN stickers on it for advertising ;)

They're created a course (a JCB has been very busy) and it looks quite good fun from what I've seen so far.

Can't find anything on on the 'net about it though. Anyone on here know anything about it?

I'm guessing the troop carrier is a Haaglunds BV206 and the six wheel amphibious thing is an Alvis Stalwart?
Both excellent vehicles. I've only had a quick go in a BV206. Pity the Stolly went from service really. They were designed to support artillery units I seem to recall, and the amphibious bit came about purely to enable them to swim the Rhine. It's great when they pop up on the For Sale circuit. In amongst the usual used-car guff there's usually the one liner "Last swam in..." :D

I love the Alvis Stalwart, a really handsome machine. As I understand it, they were designed to be ammo carriers for the 'Abbot' 155 SP Gun, but due to the static electricty generated by their huge wheels, they were not allowed into ammo dumps. They had to be 'cross decked' between the dump and the battery.

I'd love to have a go in one though.

Roger.

I saw the 109 the other day at the side of the A38 and wondered what it was about...
I could virtually walk to your site!!!

Will definetly have to come and have a look around!!
