Mmmm...a burning smell!...and sport mode gone!

In Fourth Gear
A burning smell appeared from a single turn of the key....in the area the sport mode switch area on my V8 Auto Facelift DII. The sport light isnt luminating on the main dash display! Sport mode has gone from my gearbox selection, only normal mode active....any ideas?

Have just spent £1k on engine ECU problem, so DIY comes into play from now on!
