Mot Test Procedure Curious

L90TD5

In Fourth Gear
Im a bit curious regarding the MOT test procedure.

Is it true that to record the Opacity test on diesels they redline the vehicle 3 times for a reading?

If so, wont this possibly cause turbo dammage/wear?

Im sure I read somewhere saying dont over rev the TD5 in neutral from cold start as this may cause excessive turbo wear?

Or am I being...yet again, over precautious with my 90 :p:scratchCh

Christ, imagine me when I have kids. They'll be wrapped in bubblewrap with a bio suit over the top! "You dont wanna go out and play kids!!!! Stay in!! STAY IIIIIN!!!:teacher: LOL

The MOT smoke test is supposed to be carried out on a hot engine. Flooring it won't do it any harm provided the speed governing hasn't been tampered with, it's got plenty of oil in it, and isn't making any terminal knocking noises it shouldn't be.

Cheers Crashbox :) Its having a 15 minute drive to the LR dealership with my old man as I type so it should be warm.

Wouldnt mind hearing it revved up in a semi-enclosed building! Sounds like a muscle car going through tunnels :D

Maybe it's going to fail on the exhaust then :D ;)

Just completed. Passed with flying colours. On the rolling road test the tester floored it in 2nd...I thought his eyes were gonna pop out of his head!!!

"WHAT YOU DONE TO THIS!!!?!?!?!?!?!? "

"Well.....;) :D " hehe
