It stopped working once before then started working again, now it has stopped again and wont go, all the fuses and power are good, i did chage the original aerial for a shorter one, could this have caused something to blow inside the unit?

It is fairly new, about a year and a half old... its a team MC8...

Cheers all

Is it not switching on at all? If so, there's probably a problem with the reverse polarity protection circuit, or a regulator circuit somewhere.

If it is switching on, and is receiving but not transmitting, then the antenna is probably to blame.

Personally when sophisticated kit stops working as it should, and all avenue's have been explored.. I find a tap with a screwdriver handle sometimes rectifies things.. Then again sometimes it totally nackers it :P

If it was mine I would have started beating it by now! Thats why i never get asked to repair home users pc in work :D

That sounds most likely to be a poor connection or a dry solder joint on a board somewhere. A technician should be able to sort it quite quickly. You could open up the unit and have a poke around. You might be able to see the problem immediately.

CB sets are very simple device really, and unfortunately, they're not built very well in order to keep prices down.

It's often not worth fixing. The design mentality is "Just bin it and buy another one."

Its possible as stated that you have a break in the cable or just a bad joint or connection. Also If you have wired cross polarity then it will blow the protection diode soldered across the + - and that will kill all power untill its replaced if thats what it is. Also it could be a faulty on/off switch
