New radiator fitted (Defender 200 Tdi) and a couple of good websites.

Wild Rover

Overdrive!
Excellent. Thanks for all the advice from the forum. New radiator now fitted (3hrs) and all went well and I have a new 'normal running temp' of just below middle. I was asking before about which rad to get. Got confused as paddocks wanted £265 for a Defender rad and £96 for a Disco rad but "mm 4x4" (on the web) offered a rad part number btp1823s that is listed as a Disco rad for £93. Here's the good bit, they are the same. Just fitted one to my 93 200Tdi Defender. And if your looking for a viscous coupling wrench try difflock.com they have a range of land rover special tools that include the wrench (£5.10). Anyway I'm happy, done the job and having a beer now. Just have to start planning what I am going to do about the film of oil I found on the inside of the intercooler. There's always something isn't there. coming to the realisation that it's not a form of transport, it's a career choice.

Cheers

Cheapest way to clean the intercooler out and comes reccomended by my local specalist . A soloution of water and bicarbonate of soda to swill the intercooler out .Then allow to dry thoroughly .Or get one the rubber hoses and reattach to the intercooler , insert the end of a hairdryer into this and with the lowest heat setting bang the hairdryer on(make sure the missus won't be back for a few hours ) . Should dry it out in no time .I'm doing mine tomorrow .

i always thought a disco rad was about an inch and a half too tall , hence when doing a tdi disco conversion you need to cut down the rad mounts to make it fit.

Nope, the 200Tdi radiator is taller than the early 2.5 petrol [and possibly diesel] versions. However 200 the radiator / intercoolers are the same size on the Disco & Defender.

Thats because the entire mounting is higher; NOT the actual radiator. Remember the OP only replaced the radiator in the frame, not the whole unit (which would have been different between Defender/Disco)

Yes good one(make sure the missus won't be back for a few hours )more than my lifes worth. Like I'm going to risk that. Handy solution for cleaning but that does not address the cause which as far as I can work out from the manual is a failed oil seal in the turbo. Haynes "No DIY repair of the turbocharger is possible". I have not looked in there before so don't know how long it has been like this. So therefore also have no idea if this has been like this since I bought it. Seems to go well but don't know if this is affecting power output.

Oh yes and still can not find the cylinder block coolant drain plug unscrewed one bolt but nothing behind it. Stuck my finger in a few holes but could not find any hexagonal holes that felt like a sunken plug!

part number btp1823s that is listed as a Disco rad for £93

OK.
I need a new radiator, (and will probably also upgrade the intercooler at the same time).

Mines a 1992 110Tdi CSW (200TdI)
vin= salldhmf7ja912669.

Can someone please confirm that the above rad will fit?

Most expensive Ive seen so far if from Rimmers at £580 (not incl VAT!).

OK. www.mm4x4.com appears to be the best price. Also got an offer on rear steps...
:)

I'm pretty sure mine wasnt that part number, but is NTC6168 as this has an oil cooler built into it..?

I've asked them to verify before shipping!

A quick check says that thats a 300TDi radiator, not a 200TDi.. Might need someone to confirm that though.
At any rate, the 200TDi is supposed to have an oil cooler in there.

wild rover... the oil from turbo could be a result of the breather playin up... see if breather seems oily or so.... thats from where my oil in turbo is comin from apparantly

I believe that it is normal for there to be some oil in the intercooler, hence the comment in the LR workshop manual about flushing the intercooler to remove oil etc. Olo noted may be breather issue, I wouldn't worry about it if it was a small amount, if oil POURED out when service the intercooler, then you've probably got a real worry.

Cheers.
