No Fuel at Coldstart jet.

Spuddlywuddly

In Third Gear
I have suddenly developed a fuel problem overnight. 1987 RR 3.5 Efi is not getting any fuel from the pump during startup. A mate and I took of coldstart fuel pipe and turned over and there was no fuel. We seem to get no 12 V at feed to pump in tank. The main and fuel relay seem to click durin operation and give us voltage but the fuel pump relay only gets about 6V feed and we are worndering whether it should get 12V

The plan is to change relay BOSCH 12V 30A 0332014113 5 PIN (Incidentally anyone know where to get hold of these) Then put direct 12V feed to tank and see if we can get the pump to work.

Anything else we should be checking?

Have a look behind the LH rear wheel, there is a round 3 way connector that is the pump feed, its ontop the chassis. These are prone to water ingress and the connections go green - then the pump wont run.

There are a couple of earth points on the engine, might be worth checking them. Mine would start and cut out, one of the earth connections was loose.
My cold start injector is disconnected as it was causing flooding, it still starts okay. That injector just gives extra fuelling.

hi ime having the same problem please let us know how you go on.
i am know going to check my earths.

p.s does a 1988 have afuel cut off switch anywhere ?

thanx thats why i cant find it.

i have checked my earths and tightened rear end pump connection and seems ok now thanx:nellie:

Thanks for all posts, I am checking those. It looks like problem is with pump. The problem is that you have to either drop tank or go through floor to access. I am checking supply to tank if that proves OK need to access tank. Looked at both accesses and sort of decided to drop tank rather than take up floor. Is that the easiest way!

Thanks all

try power straight to your fuel pump first to make sure it is your pump.
my range has a access panel already cut out so someone has been there before.

You might have an access panel in the floor, someone has modded mine to fit one. Floor out is a pain!

I have had to replace the tank and pump in mine.

Tank drop not too bad but it's heavy ( had mine out to do crossmember recently).

Make sure all the fuel lines clips are tight !! :D

Found one of mine leaking soon after-pipe and clips needed replacing. I guess disturbing it finished it off.

Hi thanks again all.

Went down the tank route and sheered off two bolts getting the tank off. Extracted the pump and it works direct feed, but not in the tank. Also works wired in outside the tank. Taking this opportunity to brush up the tank aperature and copperslip all bolts on the rebuild. I don't know that the problem is the the pump. But just querying whether it would be sensible to pick up another. Would hate to get it all back together and then have pump problems again. I will need a sealing gasket for the tank and there was some oither (white) stuff around the pump aperture? I presme I will need some of that to.

Anythoughts?
