Non starter

bryn1000

Offroader
Tried to start this morning and the engine just turned over (pretty normal really...but usually starts after a min), kept on trying but no joy, i then removed the plugs gave them a clean and put back...came to try and start again and im just getting a clicking noise, starter not turning at all? (battery is fine as lights etc work)

wheres the first place to look, starter solenoid?

Stick main beam on and try and turn the engine over, do the lights dim? If so its probably a duff battery. If they stay bright could be an earth or solenoid problem.

Ok charged up one of the batteries so far (24v) and was reading 12.4 now its reading 13.6v (its 6 months old)...

However i cant get an amps reading (0.00 on both batteries)...am i being thick or is there more to it than setting the meter to amps DC and putting red to pos and black to neg???

That is how you check Voltage, the Potential Difference.

Amps is Current, so you need to put the meter in a circuit, not across it.

did you replace both batteries? if only one (the gud un) the other will act as a resistor andflatten rhe other as soon as u like>
