Its an interesting point you made in your PM Gez - 4x4 do things like this and upset the farmers then all of a sudden the theres bobby-trap spikes on the lane - farmers are in the wrong for doing it but you can understand their frustration

Hay Paul,
when was the last time you went to Lake Alwyn.
those tracks have been there for a long time maybe 3/4 years.
no we did not make them. if you want photos then just ask!
We are not out to destroy lanes but to enjoy them and keep them open. so go Ahead and report us. get the lane closed for all of us.
everyone will know its you that got lane closed !!!!

I was last up there yesterday, I have not said it was you that made the tracks as I do not know you and its a good first post so how am I ment to know you?

I have not reported you to the police as I do not know who you are, I have not reported anyone for driving off of the ROW up there, but theres no reason to drive off of the ROW. The tracks have not been there for 3/4 years, no where near that long. If I ever did see anyone driving off of the right of way I would talk to them before reporting them, and I would report them if I did see them doing it again or they said they were doing it for "fun".

I do not need pictures of people driving off of the right of way, but if you do have some then please post them and I will pass them on to the police. Its not down to me to say if its wrong its down to the police.

Paul

I've not been up to the lake for a few months - yes there was a small mud run to one side but no where near as bad as the photos and videos I have seen over the last few days.

The track up to the lake is a great run and in good condition - why does anyone need to head off a solid track into the mud and cause more damage?

Thoses shown in the videos might not have created it but they have certainly made it worst :( Do you approve of their actions? Do you approve of it being posted on the web making us all look like morons?

As for getting the lane closed, it's actions like this which will do it and everyone will know who did it as its on video...

Interesting this

I assume talking about Lake Alwen (Old house at end dead end lane)

Know this lane resonable well for over many years now and it changes

Were exactly are this tracks off road ? are they on the approach lanes ? there are 3

The farmer who I have meet, moans about groups turning round at the end wrecking the ground but never seen any damage as such

Most of the route the ground is very soft and boggy at the end a bog which I have never seen anyone get across but some try

I have seen off raod activity on west end approach lane off the tarmac UCR by "Kiddy Boy races" in 2x4 closeing the lane will not prevent them

If anyone behaved like that in a group i was leading they would be left and I'd never take them out again

We all know whats right and wrong and this surely can't be defended???

The damage is at the lake end just before you turn around, it runs parallel to the ROW.

Paul

On the brow of a hill ?

have a full cab video of last weekend run will look at it to see what you mean, but a Think i know on the right (east side)

The turn round point is a few hundred yards on so would have missed it, but that track has been there for some years once saw/meet a group who "wild camped" up there they had canoes etc and were playing on the lake

does the track lead to a launch point/ small beach ?

Have got to say that those tracks have been there a fair few years now, and thats the first time I have been stuck in mud on it. In parts the original track is actualy the gulley that is virtualy undrivable and a new track has been formed and is now used as the road.

I have a IQ some what larger than an egg plant and oddly enough left my McDonalds waste in the car. This lane is one of my favourites and often drive one lane to the lake the other back, this time due a different vehicle I got stuck, it happens. These are old track not ones made by me, in fact I'd suggest they have been there some time.

While not exactly my back yard I do care about the area as I go there a lot and often take family there for a day out to have lunch by the lake.

How often do you guys go there ? I'd say its my most visited route and so far have only ever seen a couple of other vehicles in 3 years up there !

Have passed a farmer once waved, he waved back all seemed fine and happy.

here is some other footage of the same day showing me having some fun, this was filmed on my camera.

and here is another video of the same day..

I am not ashamed of anything I have done and also agree the country side is there for all, if there are lanes or areas that I hear are in need of rest, e.g. The Pheasant Steps, I do not use them untill I hear any problem is sorted or untill I can check them out with out driving on them, if I am imformed of areas that need special care, e.g. top of wayfarers then I treat as required, however in this case I was driving a lane that I have driven on many times over the last few years and this is the first time I have had a problem, hence I was towed out and went around, if you judge actions my the amount of mud then bare in mind my mud tyres currently stick out more than the body and hence spray untill my extensions arrive.

So if anyone has something to say I say hello ! I'm here, a good few of you know me and I'm sure we will all meet again on a day out :D

Seen the videos

I think the gully was the row some years ago, the upper track started then everyone started using that

Some lanes change quickly over the years a certain route gets muddy so another is formed then the original route is left to "fallow"

Know of a few lanes like this bit like footpaths in heavy used mountain areas, one path one year ,another another year , part of the natural cycle

I Agree the hard track above and to the left of the Rush filled gully Has been used as the main track for 6 years or more...

Touche' :D Fair play..

I havnt been up this lane for around 12 months.. and that Mud run wasnt there then ..So this was the first Id seen of it .

Im not blaming you for Making the mud run and I like a good mud Bath as much as the next bloke...But the Anti 4x4 brigade would love to get their hands on that ...

Whoever started this mud-run is totally irrelevant. The fact is that anyone straying off the RoW is breaking the law, unless they have a damned good reason for doing so, and playing the fool does not come under that category.
I fully support the reporting of anyone indulging in this type of stupid behaviour; a hefty fine and vehicle confiscation seem to be the only way of stopping them causing the authorities to lose all patience with us as a group, and disregard our best efforts to maintain these roads by closing them permanently.
And, contrary to what someone posted earlier, those responsible for the closure will be those irresponsible enough to career around the countryside intent on their own fun and enjoyment, totally ignorant of the damage they're causing!
On any road, when you come across routes carved by fools, ignore them. There's no need to descend to their level.
Regards,

I have photos of this track which runs parallel with main track at end of lane, from March 03 .also 2to 3 miles before end of lane there is a track to right that runs parallel, . the later track is the original lane that has got deep ruts and for the last 5/6 years people have used a new track to the left.
this is now what everyone uses. include you Paul
your comments about you stearing away from original lane and using new track
